A ski is made of strips of narrow material which are semi-rigid and are worn under the foot so as to enable someone to have ease in gliding on the snow and they are not wide but are longer and they are used in pairs and these skis have ski boots attached to them and also have ski bindings which may be locked or not.
Rental skis are secured to the heel and if one requires to go up the slope the skis may have ski skins which were initially made of seal fur but currently the have synthetic material and they are attached at the bottom of the ski.
The skis were actually made for aiding people to travel on snow but currently people use them for recreation and as sport and the oldest skis were made of wood and they are known to have been found in the location of Russia in c. 6300 BCE, in Sweden c. 5200 BCE and in Norway c. 3200 BCE.
Skis makes it possible for skiers to glide at very high speeds and the ski binding currently designs and have made possible for having ski lifts which ferries people to the high slopes and this development has made it easier for developing of alpine skis.
There are several methods of skiing and a person may ski with one foot on a glider which is long and the other is short and seal hunters created a special ski that was long which they used to sneak at the seal’s breathing holes and they were usually 4 meter long.
Skis are not made of wood with cable bindings or bamboo poles but they are made of materials that are synthetic and have special shoes and poles and earlier skis had to be thick enough so as not to bow and sink because of the skiers weight but the current skis are light, thinner and flexible enough to absorb all the shock of the bumps.
Because of the dwindling forests there was not a possibility of getting quality hardwood and this made it possible for getting better laminated skis.
The mogul skis are usually soft and absorbs all kinds of shocks and the powder skis are normally wide so as to offer more chances of floating and the rocker skis are bent upwards.
Modern skis are made of aluminium, steel, fiberglass or plastic which are compressed and layered below and above the core and the construction of lamination is widely utilized in making the skis and some of the are sandwiched with plywood which is surrounded with aluminium alloy core.
